Description
The Gippsland timber industry developed in a piecemeal fashion since the early 1860s. Timber felling and logging grew as new towns were built and demand for timber increased. The arrival and later expansion of the Australian Paper Mill created the need for logging and haulage operations which could meet the increased volume of demand. How to harvest this timber safely, in the volumes required for APM, and then transport it efficiently and safely to the Maryvale paper mill? These were the key challenges. This sets the scene for the arrival of Leeson’s a family business which sought to meet these challenges, and which has shaped the industry since, building on a tradition of innovation and hands-on management success.
