In the Beginning there was Carisbrook by Daryl McLeish (Second Hand Book)

SECOND HAND BOOK – EX-LIBRARY

The Scottish ancestors of the McLeish family migrated to Australia in 1833, and John Franklin McLeish – the great-great-grandfather of Daryl – reached Carisbrook by 1854-1856. There has been a family presence in the area ever since. Ernest Daryl (‘Daryl’) was born to Ern & Bon, farmers at Carisbrook, on 8.11.1936 at the Maryborough and District Hospital.

Daryl attended State School 1030 from 1942, and in the years that followed was prominent in community affairs as businessman, plasterer, Rotarian, Councillor, sportsman and musician, and also through his association with the Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Lodge.

Throughout his life he has had a keen interest in the history of Carisbrook, and an ambition to establish the importance of the settlement on Deep Creek as a major inland centre in the early years of colonial Victoria. This book is the culmination of many years devoted to the research of Carisbrook’s past.
