HISTORIC BUILDINGS OF THE WHITTLESEA SHIRE by Robert Wuchatsch and John Waghorn (Second Hand Book)

SECOND HAND BOOK

This book is Whittlesea Historical Society’s main contribution to Victoria’s 150th Anniversary Celebrations. Its purpose is to inform readers both local and otherwise, of the rich architectural heritage which exist within the Shire of Whittlesea. Although many fine old buildings have been lost over the years, including two recently which were to be included in this book – the old Epping Hotel and Mt Caroline homestead at Doreen – a considerable number fortunately remain.

Many people have assisted in the preparation of this book. The writing was my task and the photography that of John Waghorn, our Vice-President, but it has in fact been a team effort  involving most members. Despite the material available from previously published histories and the National trust (Victoria), a substantial amount of original research was still required.

Historical accounts of 55 buildings which portray the Shire of Whittlesea’s diverse history. Contains 70 photographs, all full page, 12 in colour. Each is accompanied by a comprehensive account of the homes’ origins and changing ownerships through the generations. There are also drawings and a map of the Shire of Whittlesea. Reference to the Peter Lalor Home Building Co-Operative Society Ltd., a project devised to overcome the critical shortage after World War 2. Produced as part of the celebrations for Victoria’s 150th anniversary by the Whittlesea Historical Society.
