Description
SECOND HAND BOOK – EX LIBRARY
There is a great amount that is interesting about the early days of Great Western. The first settlers moved in with their flocks of sheep to found the wool industry in the Great Western area – an industry which is still as important now as it was in the early days of settlement.
The pastoral holdings such as Allanvale were already well established in the boom days, when one gold rush followed the other.
Many of the miners took up land to make a living as gold mining became unprofitable. Jean Pierre Trouette and Emile Blampied deserve a very special place in this history, as by planting the first vineyard and building the first winery they set a very firm foundation on which the present wine industry has been built.
Too many of the happenings associated with the early days of settlement of Victoria have been lost, but in this book much information concerning Great Western has been preserved. A great amount of research and though has gone into the production of this book and Arthur is to be commended for having made a valuable contribution toward the preservation of the history of Great Western,
F.C.Grellet,
President, Shire of Stawell.
