(Stan Scott, who was a pupil and friend of Chisholm, died in 2014). ‘The emphasis in this privileged firsthand testimony is on the literary scholar and on the unfolding of his philosophically grounded critical method. There is however, much on a New South Wales country childhood, on schooling and university study in Sydney, on a sojourn in France and Germany before the First World War, on life in the trenches of the Western Front, and on the long years of employment (1921-1956) at the University of Melbourne.
