Australiana Over 150 years of decorative crafts furniture, jewellery, pottery, coins and bottles by Mona Brand photography by Russell Cockayne (SECOND HAND)

SECOND HAND

What is ‘Australiana’?  To many people it means furniture and furnishings produced in Australia but based on the style of the Victorian era; to others it is kitsch with an Australian accent; looked at another way it can be the Sydney Harbour Bridge or the Opera House.
This book studies Australiana in terms of what have been the decorative trends and designs over the last 150 years or so on a range of objects varying from furniture and jewellery to tokens, snuff boxes and commemorative mugs, teapots and plates.  IN more than 200 photographs (many in colour) and descriptive text, the book looks at coins, pottery, bottles and glassware, furniture, silverware, postcards and early advertising and theatrical posters. From this emerges a picture of a developing nation with a passion for all things Australian.”
