This book has come from the Genealogical Society of Victoria collection.
Lord Lyon Sir James Balfour Paul published ‘An ordinary of Arms’ in 1903. It covered the first sixteen volumes of the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland and included all the Arms recorded during the peroid from the inception of the Register in 1672 down to 1903, a total of 231 years. Seventy years later the number of volumes had increased dramatically and Volume 57 was already in partial use.
This new Ordinary of Arms will be invaluable not only in Lyon Office, but also to Heralds and students throughout the world.
