Second Hand Book
” ‘Orion’ Horne, ” says the author, “was the most distinguished English-man to settle in Australia during the gold rushes.” Distinguished and, one might add, singular, as his contemporaries acknowledge by the epithets they applied to him.
Horne’s was a wild and adventurous career. He reached Australia in September 1852, with a notable reputation as a man of letters. Cyril Pearl has clearly enjoyed adding Horne’s earlier portraits of unconventional people and times: Wild Men of Sydney and The Girl with the Swansdown Seat. He has done the man full length and the background in detail, particularly in early Melbourne.
Hardback, 276 pages, published in 1960.
Condition: Very Good, lightly worn dust jacket included.
