Description
SECOND HAND BOOK – EX-LIBRARY
About 1913 an artist made his first visit to Kallista, then South Sassafras. As he made the long steady climb through the forest he complained bitterly but when he reached the crest he exclaimed, “Why didn’t I bring my paints?”
By then the district had been settled for about twenty years. There had been no plans for a township at (South Sassafras) Kallista, but because the track emerged from the forest, it was the natural centre from which tracks radiated along the forest edge to Sherbrooke, The Patch, and Menzies Creek, up to the valleys to Sassafras and Olinda, and along the Sassafras Creek to Monbulk.
