A Century of Change: The first hundred years of the stock exchange of Melbourne by Graeme Adamson (Second Hand Book)

SECOND HAND BOOK – EX-LIBRARY

A Century of Change is the second history commissioned by the Stock Exchange of Melbourne. In 1968, Dr A R Hall’s The Stock Exchange of Melbourne and the Victorian Economy 1852-1900 detailed the establishment of the Stock Exchange in Victoria in the volatile economy of that period.

This new publication adopts a different stance. It records the expansion of the Stock Exchange over a century and the events that have influenced the trends in the Australian market – commodity discoveries and fluctuating prices, wars, industrialisation, overseas and institutional investment.

It also looks at some of the firms that have built the Stock Exchange of today, at the families which have developed these businesses and at the dramatic changes in the base participants in the market over the past twenty-five years.

In the Foreword, Ian Roach, the chairman of the Stock Exchange of Melbourne, describes its role and the lessons of history in investment markets.
