The Genealogical Society of Victoria: an introduction
October 18, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

As part of History Week the Genealogical Society of Victoria is holding an information session especially for RHSV members and friends.
A couple of years ago we were fortunate to absorb some of the GSV’s library at the RHSV as they, like all of us, were downsizing. As there are great similarities between the two organisations and our aims we are starting to create shared events – this is the first.
For anyone contemplating researching their family this event is key. It is also of great interest for those undertaking more general research as family research skills and resources can be used to create histories for any characters, not just your family. The GSV has not just an impressive research centre but it hosts a multitude of focused groups which meet monthly to assist each other with knotty problems. And, like the RHSV, they have a very full program of public events to assist their members. As we all know family research is more than births, deaths and marriages and good research skills and resources are needed to put flesh on bones.
The two speakers will be Jenny Redman (current President) and David Down (immediate Past President) who will cover three topics:
- Introduction to the GSV
- Starting family history
- DNA
and ending with Q&A.
This is a free event but is strictly limited to 20 people so we ask you to register below. Please let us know if your circumstances change and you can no longer attend. When you register we ask you to nominate your level of research skills simply so Jenny and David know where to pitch their information.
