About this objectJohn King, born in Ireland on 5th December, 1838 who, after purchasing his discharge from the army sailed to Australia and joined The Burke Expedition which was to attempt the first transcontinental south to north journey in Australia. The arduous trip affected his health and after developing consumption, he died, aged 33 years in 1872.
