About this objectThe author worked as a journalist before obtaining a job as assistant to the editor of the SA Hansard. In that role he gathered voluminous notes on the histories of South Australian towns and geographical features, and this title is the result o that work. Some of the material is reprinted form from 'The Register,' 'The Adelaide Observer,' and 'The Evening Journal.'' The RHSV copy has three letters pasted into the book, one from A. C. MacDonald re the phrase Woke Wyne, and 2 from W. A. Magarey (a South Australian solicitor). There are also two newspaper articles, "Place names in a new country", from the World's News (Sydney) 22 May 1909, "Railway Stations Names and Meanings" from the Daily Standard (Brisbane) 26 February 1914.
