About this objectWritten from Melbourne on 20 December 1840, this is Edward (Ned) Argyle's first letter from Australia. Argyle is writing to his brother in Tamworth (U.K.) and the letter contains interesting information about the early days at the colony. There is also an insert written by his friend Abraham Booth. Attached is printed information about Burnewang Station, bibliographical information about Edward Argyle and the background to the legal firm 'Argyles' in Tamworth, Staffordshire, U.K. Included is Edward Argyle's entry in "Pastoral Pioneers of Port Phillip" and a correction and addition to the entry of John D. Armstrong. Three pages of "Back to Kerang, 1927" give a portrait and further information on Edward Argyle who is described as "the original pioneer of northern Victoria".
