The certificate includes Gray's age, physical description and length of service. Also included is a RHSV Heritage Register entry for Augustus William Gray (born Terang, 2, April 1894), and a letter from A. W. Gray (descendant).
The Crimean War was fought from October 1853 to February 1856 between Russia and an ultimately victorious alliance of the Ottoman Empire, France, the United Kingdom and Sardinia-Piedmont.
