(Paper delivered as RHSV lecture, 9.09.1986; MS 000956),"Music in the Cabbbage Garden" A 26 chapter history of music in Victoria from European settlement to 1975, but concentrating on the history of the various Victorian Liedertafels ie Melbourne Liedertafel, Royal Metropolitan Liedertafel, Royal Victorian Liedertafel from 1868. The author lists individual artists as well as musical societies of all sorts, Philharmonic, Operatic, Choral. In addition he notes musical entertainment in theatres, pubs, on bay ferries and in private homes.
