Name/TitleNotes on Mount Fraser area
About this objectNotes compiled in September, 1983 by J. W. Payne on the history of Mount Fraser. Details of Hume and Hovell's discovery and description by William Howitt with particular reference to its extinct crater. Other references to Beveridge's station, Mercer Vale and the township of Beveridge, and later subdivision with purchases by Hector Fraser, R. B. Mills and Samuel J. Baird; description of Duke of Edinburgh's visit in 1867 with festivities held at Fraser's Hill. Mount Fraser was originally named Mount Bland (and the surrounding area Bland's Plains) after William Bland. Its significance is due to the fact that Hume and Hovell first saw the sea from this point, and thus confirmed the success of their journey.,NOTE: These notes were compiled because Mount Fraser was nominated for the National Estate Register.
