The expedition was financed by William Orr. William Orr (13 February 1843 – 6 February 1929) was an Australian politician and mining prospector. According to the Barrier Miner, Orr was "one of the pioneers of [the] mining industry".
NOTE: The original journal was written in 1911, the present (1953) is an exact copy with the exception of the geological summary which has been summarized. A number of footnotes, comments and observations were added in 1944 and 1948.
