While the inscription on the back indicates that the 2nd women in the photograph is daughter Elizabeth Jane (Jean) Mcqualter it might be in fact daughter Jean Ferguson McQualter who was married to Mr John George Taylor in 1875
Alternatively while in inscription on the back indicates the gentle to the far right as being Mr John George Taylor it maybe son in law Lachlan Alexander Fairbairn who was married to the identified Elizabeth Jane (Jean) McQualter.

Portrait of Ballan House
Built by Robert Von Stieglitz, the first settle in this district, who settled on the Werribee River about a mile from Ballan, at the end of 1837. See Mr Thomas Learmonth's letter in Letters from Victorian Pioneers, page 42. I do not know the exact date when this house was built, but in some reminiscences published by the late Mr G Belcher? in the Geelong Advertiser in April and May 1904. It is stated by Mr Belcher visited his relative Mr Stieglitz there in the early forties. The said house was pulled down and removed some years ago. The persons shown in the photo are, from left to right Miss Carrie McQualter, (now Mrs McIndoe), Miss Jean McQualter (now mrs LA Fairbairn), Mr Robert McQualter (the then owner), Mrs McQualter, and Mr J Taylor, their son in low. The photo was probably taken during the eighties.
