About this objectThis photograph shows the three place-getters at the Victorian Derby in November 1903. The winning horse "F.J.A." is about to cross the finishing line at Flemington Racecourse, with Sweet Nell in second position. The winning jockey was Arthur Richardson and the horse owner, Sir Rupert Clark. There were only five starters in the race. The view is from the stands, across the track, across the stewards' area and toward the crowds in the middle of the course.
In the background, the big factory on the right is part of the William Angliss factory and the buildings on the left could be the Punt hotel and/or the Pioneers hotel.
