"John Alsop, one of the pioneers of the Victorian State Savings Bank. Mr. Alsop was born in Derbyshire, England, 86 years ago, and came to Australia with his parents in 1849. ' He lived for five years in Adelaide, and then came to Melbourne, where he entered the service, of the State Savings Bank. For more than 50 years he remained in the bank, and filled many important positions. He rose to the position of actuary and trustee manager, and he held this position at the time of his retirement, 21 years ago."
