About this objectGlass slide that depicts the aftermath of a fire, which destroyed the hotel. The remains of the inn and surrounding trees are in the background. A man is standing at the left side of the ruins. The Glenrowan Inn sign, chimney and a barrel are on the right side of the image.
The Inn was built in 1878, the licensee Ann Jones. In June 1880 it became the principal site of the Kelly Gang’s last stand. The fire was deliberately lit by police in to flush out the gang, three of whom died in the fire.
The siege precinct and Siege Street have State and National Heritage listing.
One of many glass slides purchased from retailers or specifically made for illustrated lectures given by Isaac Selby between c. 1930 and c. 1955 to raise money for the Old Pioneers Memorial Fund.
