About this objectFront and southern side of the former Treasury building in Spring Street, Melbourne c. 1878. This is Melbourne's second Treasury Building, completed in c. 1869. The architect was John James Clark. The first Treasury was in William Street.
A military guard is standing outside the building near a sentry box. To the right is a small section of the Treasury Gardens with the original corrugated iron fence. A number of gas street lamps are situated in front of the building and the fence.
The Treasury Precinct is on the Victorian Heritage Register H1526
It is one of approximately 50 photographs from the set 'Views of Melbourne" by Charles Nettleton. Complete set in RHSV collection A-10-C to A-50-C.
