Name/TitleMontage of images of "Southern Cross" and crew following 1928 trans-Pacific flight
About this objectThis montage combines an image of the aircraft "Southern Cross" flying over Sydney, and an image of its crew, following their successful flight across the Pacific from the USA to Australia in 1928.
"Southern Cross" was a Fokker FVIIB aircraft used by Charles Kingford Smith for a number of record-breaking flights. On the first trans-Pacific flight in 1928 Kingsford Smith had as a crew fellow Australian pilot Charles Ulm, and Americans Harry Lyon as navigator and Jim Warner as radio operator. The image here shows the crew after arrival in Sydney. From left to right they are Lyon, with Warner in front of him, Ulm and Kingsford Smith.
One of the many slides purchased from retailers or specifically made for illustrated lectures given by Isaac Selby between c. 1930 and c. 1955 to raise money for the Old Pioneers Memorial Fund.
