Name/TitleChurch Street Bridge, Richmond
About this objectA glass slide that depicts a bridge that crosses over the Yarra River. The river and bank are in the forefront. The bridge, buildings and cloudy sky are in the background. There is a slope on both sides of the bridge and several people are walking across.
The bridge was built in October 1857 at a cost of 57,000 pound, and served to connect Prahran and Richmond until 1914 when the new bridge was constructed.
One of many glass slides purchased from retailers or specifically made for illustrated lectures given by Isaac Selby between c. 1930 and c. 1955 to raise money for the Old Pioneers Memorial Fund.
Selby gave a lecture entitled 'Old Melbourne and Richmond', at Town Hall, Richmond, on 3rd July 1928.
