About this objectHarry Hawker and Mackenzie Grieve made an unsuccessful attempt to fly the Atlantic in May 1919. A few weeks later British aviators John Alcock and Arthur Brown made the first non-stop trans-Atlantic flight in June 1919.
This photograph shows Hawker and Mackenzie Grieve at a "Transatlantic Aviators’’ Dinner in London. Hawker is third from the left and Mackenzie Grieve is fifth from the left. Sir John Alcock is at the extreme left, with Sir Arthur Whitten Brown between him and Hawker.
One of the many slides purchased from retailers or specifically made for illustrated lectures given by Isaac Selby between c. 1930 and c. 1955 to raise money for the Old Pioneers Memorial Fund.
