The aircraft was originally a military transport with the United States Army Air Force and the United States Navy before coming on to the Australian civil register in 1946. It was initially named "Kadana" and operated by Australian National Airlines.
It was operated by Ansett-ANA Victorian Air Coach Services when it crashed in April 1965 shortly after take off from Warnambool on a flight to Melbourne, fortunately without fatalities. The aircraft was damaged beyond repair and was broken up in 1969.
