One of many glass slides purchased from retailers or specifically made for illustrated lectures given by Isaac Selby between c. 1930 and c. 1955 to raise money for the Old Pioneers Memorial Fund.
Selby gave a lecture showing 100 glass slides of Melbourne and Brighton entitled 'The Story of Old Melbourne and Old Brighton', at Brighton Town Hall on 8th May 1929.

Inscription and MarksGEORGE BATTRICK, one of Dendy's first company of settlers (1841). He opened the first shop in Bay-street, at the corner of Asling-street. He was an expert with horses.
CHARLES STONE, settled at Little Brighton in 1845, and opened the first Day School and Sunday School. He was among the first members of the Borough Council.
THOMAS J. RICKETTS, built Dendy's first house, 1841, and six of the first substantial houses in Brighton (1853-60). He looked after Were's property in New-street, during his visit to England (1815-6).
