SECOND HAND BOOK – EX LIBRARY
Pella is an unofficial name. There is no post office, no town-ship, nor even the traditional hotel.
The spirit of Pella surely resides in the memories of the stout-hearted people who settled there at the beginning of the 20th Century.
Predominantly Lutheran of German extraction, they were a farming folk who emigrated from other parts of Victoria and from South Australia. The land to which they came was amongst the least promising so far settled in the State and it was, for the most part, covered by a thick cloak of Mallee vegetation.
Not only was the land cleared and cultivated but it was nurtured to support sheep, cattle and horses and, in its turn, it supported those who settled on it.
They were a hard-working people, honest and inventive. They sustained a firm faith in their own purpose and in God.
The place where they built their lime-stone church they called, Pella.
