Goldfields Reminiscences: Castlemaine’s golden era by S W Jonnes (Second Hand Book)

SECOND HAND BOOK – EX-LIBRARY

From the Foreword:

Most mining prospectuses are as ephemeral in character as they are dishonest in intent. The work that follows – ‘Bonanza’s Gold-fields Reminiscences – is an exception. One would have to be naïve not to realise it was written primarily to promote the Bolivia Bonanza Investment Gold Mining Co.; at the same time, however, its recollections and extracts provide an authentically vivid picture of life on Forest Creek in the roaring days.

Its author, S.W. Jonnes who preferred the pseudonym ‘Bonanza’, … outlined a ready road to riches. Deep below the red hills of Castlemaine lay a wonderful, gold-studded reef – the Bolivia. All that was needed to garner its prodigal wealth was the early diggers’ faith in the field – and a little capital. Those who heeded the prophet’s word and helped launch the Bolivia Bonanza Mining Co. were assured of fortune.
