Description
SECOND HAND BOOK
A short history of Circular Head and its pioneers, and also of the Van Diemen’s Land (V.D.L.) company.
This special edition to mark the Circular Head 200 Commemoration – to mark 200 years since the naming of the district by Bass and Flinders – has been reprinted without change or correction by Circular Head Chronicle Printers, 36 Smith St., Smithton for the Publishers, the Circular Head Historical Society, with the kind permission of Mr David von Stieglitz, of “Andorah”, Evandale, son of the original author, the late K.R. von Stieglitz. Any profits from the venture will assist in the future publishing of Circular Head local history.
This book is a worthy sequel to its forerunners. We find ourselves taken back a century and a quarter to the pioneering struggles of the Van Diemen’s Land Company Staff, and, factual though the narrative is, the author impresses us with a sense of the determined character of the early explorers whilst the very tale of their doings reveals the skill and fortitude they brought to their undertakings.
