SECOND HAND BOOK
The club has its roots in the mid-19th century when meetings were held at Baxter’s Flat – near Sage’s Cottage. The first Mornington Racing Club meeting was held in 1899 at Baxter’s Flat. The club’s first meeting at the present site was in 1911. There was a major renaissance of the MRC – instigated by Sir Reginald Ansett – in 1947. No racing was held during the Second World War years when the course was used as an army base.
