SECOND HAND BOOK
Traditional Aboriginal food, fibre and healing plants of Victoria. Over 900 plants have been recorded as having been used by Aboriginal people in Victoria alone. Many of these were food plants, gathered as part of the rich and varied diet Aborigines enjoyed in south-eastern Australia before colonisation. As well as food, Aborigines used plants to make weapons, canoes, nets and baskets. In Victoria’s forests they knew where to find vines which cured headaches or reduced fever. This book takes a fascinating journey through the human history of Victoria’s native plants. It contains over 150 colour photographs of plants traditionally important to the Aboriginal people who managed the natural resources of this abundant region for thousands of years.
