Description
Churches have made a significant contribution to both the social fabric and the built landscape of inner Melbourne since the earliest days of European settlement.
This book is a study of the churches in one of Melbourne’s oldest areas: the former City of Collingwood, a municipality which for some 130 years comprised the suburbs of Collingwood, Abbotsford and Clifton Hill. It surveys the historical development of all churches and their ancillary buildings that are known to have existed in the area and includes an architectural description of the principal buildings. A background history of the denominations represented in Collingwood is included, as well as a suggested walking tour with accompanying map.
