The Emperor Gold Mine in Fiji is one of the worlds largest epithermal gold deposits with an active operational history extending over 80 years and thus one of the worlds longest lived gold mines.

The Mine was discovered by prospectors who undertook arduous exploration over a number of years culminating in the discovery of payable gold in 1932. There followed Australian venture capitalists, a stock market boom for Fijian gold stocks with the inevitable crash and subsequent development into one of the worlds premier gold mines.

Challenges had to be overcome before this lofty point was achieved, these included the unique geology, telluride metallurgy and an untrained work force all within a country emerging from their colonial past. The Emperor Gold Mine is now undergoing a revival with new shareholders and investment in ageing infrastructure against a backdrop of robust gold prices and increasing mining reserves.
