WWII Veterans from Croydon and District: Saluting their service by Geoff Arnott

A publication of the The Croydon Historical Society.

‘WWII Veterans from Croydon and District: saluting their service‘ provides an account of the involvement by WWII veterans from Croydon, North Croydon, Kilsyth, Mooroolbark and Wonga Park in the military campaigns and battles that were fought on the land, at sea and in the air. In all of these battles, soldiers, sailors and airmen from Croydon & District were heavily involved with numerous examples outlined in the book. There is also a focus on volunteers on the home front who served in the military forces or as a part of civilian defence and support organisations.

A most compelling feature of this book are the stories of over 70 Individuals which typify how and where the war was fought with examples of gallantry, unimaginable suffering and sacrifice for which people today should be eternally grateful. Gratitude should also occur for the volunteers on the home front and their service should never be overlooked as it was crucial in Australia’s survival as a nation.

The book highlights the contribution made by veterans to society once they returned from the war.

Geoff Arnott is a freelance writer and consultant and has written over 20 books in areas including economics, politics, community services and history. His recent history publications are The Anzacs of Maroondah, Lest We Forget; The Ball Family from Wedderburn; Remembering Wedderburn; Hope and Fulfilment A Journey Through Time; and, The Golden Harvest A History of Wedderburn (with Keith Ring).
