The Farmer’s Cinematheque

A documentary film (DVD) which is a luminous archive, revealing both stories and spirits embedded in the land.

For more than 50 years, Relvy Teasdale and his son John made beautiful films on their farm and within their small community in the Australian Wimmera. Their luminous archive connects past and present generations, revealing the rhythms and rituals of life on the land and drawing surprising parallels between settler and indigenous modes of mapping and looking after country. Combining sequences from the archive with contemporary footage and voices, The Farmer’s Cinematheque is a lyrical film about the power of memory, the nature of our attachment to country and the ways in which communities strive to balance change and tradition.

“If you get a chance – see this brilliant film. A moving reflection on farming life, indigenous life, family life, and life.” Caleb Cluff, ABC Rural

“The Farmer’s Cinematheque was to my mind the best cinema in teh (2015 Adelaide Film) Festival. A lovely film.” David Donaldson (inaugural Director, Sydney Film Festival.

Written and directed by Malcolm McKinnon and Ross Gibson. Produced with assistance from Film Victoria, Screen Australia, Wimmera Regional Library Corporation, Yarriambiack Shire Council, Rupanyup Major Events, Rupanyup & Minyip Community Bank, Tasco Petroleum and private donors.
